Making Changes Has Its Challenges
Today many churches are aware of the need to change. In fact, most of those churches have sought to implement one or more new programs to address the problems they face. There are many good solutions from which to choose. When looking for a new solution to a church's problems there are challenges that church then faces. One is to decide what changes are necessary and then selecting an appropriate solution. Many times we chose a simple, less exhaustive solution hoping that we will get the results needed. Most of the time this choice does not bring about lasting and meaningful change. Secondly, major solutions may require that staff or members be trained outside of the church. Often those trained return excited and determined to introduce this new idea only to find that they lack the experience, time, support, and resources to affect the changes needed. Thirdly, there is always resistance to change and for those not experienced in dealing with it, it can slow and sometimes stop the change process all together. Faced with all these challenges, often we see that everyone gets drawn back to dealing with every day responsibilities and that new idea is relegated to a dusty shelf. Unfortunately, this all tends to produce a reluctance to try the next new idea that comes along.
