Interviews
The Cornerstone of an Effective Equipping System

The equipping church is all about people. It is about building people up and inviting them into ministry so they may serve and through serving with others grow in the faith and help to build up the Body of Christ. The interview is a critical and essential tool to help people discern their call and discover opportunities to serve.

The use of interviews in most churches is a new practice and something that may make some people uneasy. However, churches with an equipping ministry process find that most people are excited to share their faith journey and the impact of Jesus in their lives.

The interview is simply an intentional conversation that can serve many purposes. For instance, it can help us learn the uniqueness of each member of the Body of Christ. It can demonstrate the commitment of the church to provide paths for involvement, meet the needs, and offer a way to share our faith journey. It can help the church discover the reasons for a person coming to the church at this time, in addition to their personal concerns and needs for ministry.

Interviews may be used in several ways in the equipping process. There may be entry interviews that could be a key component of the assimilation process, serve as a welcome to the church, and provide assistance to a person making an initial connection with the church. Placement interviews are used in all equipping ministry systems and provide an individual the opportunity to discover the best place to serve in terms of their specific spiritual gifts, experiences, talents and passions. Exit interviews can be used to learn about a person's ministry experience, its challenges and rewards, and to affirm and show appreciation to the individual for their service.
