Identifying And Maximizing Your Church Culture
Commonly held expectations

How do we define church culture?
The term culture comes to mind when thinking of different countries, regions and even a particular neighborhood. But each church also has its own culture. It can be defined by the church's documented mission, vision, and core values. It can also be defined by how they define themselves, by what expectations they have as they walk on the church campus and by the type of relationships they, as a church, have within the community that surrounds them.

One of the basic goals of The Church Consultants is to work with a church's leadership to explore what their current culture is and to discover ways they might evolve into defining themselves as an equipping church. An equipping church culture is defined by the principles found in Ephesians 4:11-13 and lived out as described in Ephesians 4:14-16. These verses tell us that a primary responsibility of pastors and leaders is to prepare and equip all of the church's people for ministry so that all may grow and mature in the faith and that the Body of Christ may be built up.

The workshop begins with the exploration of the assessment of the churches current culture using various interactive methods. In this segment we explore the answers to various questions, such as:
- What are the prevailing values and vision of the churches leadership?
- What values and vision does your congregation demonstrate in its actions?
- What are the strengths of your current culture?
- In what ways can we be more effective as we look to the future?

To assist in this assessment, workshop participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire about how they currently view their church on a variety of culture related issues.

Once there is a common understanding of the current church culture we then spend the rest of the time developing the fundamental values and concepts of an equipping ministry culture, adapting Ephesians 4 principles to your particular church. The information gained can then be used by the leadership to re-shape the vision as necessary.
